Trees for All Seasons:
Broadleaved Evergreens for Temperate Climates
by Sean Hogan

Book Review by Ed McVicker
“ Let’s play garden Jeopardy. The answer is: "Endlessly fascinating .... wonderful textures in foliage and branch structure ..... surprising contrasts of leaves and bark ... flowers and fruits, and year round interest." The question: "Why broadleaf evergreens?"
Sean Hogan's question and answer set the stage for his most recent work Trees for All Seasons: Broadleaved Evergreens for Temperate Climates. He goes on to describe 300 little-known or under-used specimens of small trees/large shrubs that provide wonderful features certain to interest any gardener or plant geek. Species accounts include information about characteristics, origin, and growing culture. A list of trees by characteristics and uses is helpful, and a glossary defining many of those characteristics is also included.
The information provided here makes this a great reference book. At the same time, Hogan’s engaging and accessible style of writing and more than 300 photographs make it a good source of ideas for picking out that addition or new replacement in any garden.”
